Creative Blogging: Putting in a Little Drama

Tedcheneycreativenonfiction Have you heard about "creative nonfiction?" Evidently there are more ways to learn journalism today than there were when I was in college. (Heck, everything's new since I was in undergrad.) I just ordered 2 books on it by the two supposed grandfathers of creative nonfiction, Lee Gutkind and Ted Cheney.

Leegutkindcreativenonfiction What's this got to do with Building a Better Blog? Quite simply, in the words of Jane Genova, because creative nonfiction is "peeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrfect for blogging."

Read Jane's interview with Ted Cheney, and check out his book. Meet me back here in a couple of weeks, after I've soaked up the creative nonfiction wisdom. Curious? It has to do with writing nonfiction using fiction techniques: notably, putting emotion and drama into a situation.

I hope it doesn't mean writing like some of those newscasters on network TV, but I'm sure, like Jane, there are important points here for making your blog posts resonate with readers.
